This website is dedicated to Hanna and her battle with cancer. It originated as a place for family, friends and the common caring individual to share their thoughts and prayers for Hanna and our family. It was our hope that, together with modern medicine, our thoughts and prayers could generate enough positive energy to “Help Hanna Heal”. Today the website remains as a celebration of her spirit; a spirit that will forever guide us through the difficult days ahead. It’s a testiment to love and faith brought together by hundreds and thousands of people who cared enough to help us through the difficult battle and who continue to, now, “help us heal” from the pain of our loss. On December 12, 2005 Hanna was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma, a life threatening cancer, found only in children. Hanna’s disease became apparent at age 2 ½, with the onset of low back pain. After numerous tests, we learned Hanna’s cancer originated from a tumor, slightly larger than a softball, above her left kidney. The cancer had already spread to numerous sites throughout her body, including the lymph nodes, bone marrow, brain, and spinal cord. Because of the advanced stage at diagnosis, Hanna had begun an aggressive treatment plan. It was going tp includ 6 cycles of chemotherapy, surgery to remove the primary tumor, stem cell transplant, and radiation therapy. Hanna’s spirit was strong and she fought through 6 months with positive results. Unfortunately this disease was much too aggressive. Despite our efforts, the cancer continued to grow within her brain and bone marrow. On Father’s Day, June 18, 2006, just one month after her 3rd birthday, Hanna passed away. Words can not explain the emotional roaster coaster we endured in these past 6 months, or how the future will unfold. We are grateful to have enjoyed what time we had to spend with her, yet we are eternally saddened that we could not have more. We can only hope and pray that she is now, “truly healed” from this disease however the pain, from our loss, will continue on for those she has left behind.
